Water Program
hydrant2.jpgThe Water Program includes the operation and maintenance of the Town's wells, pump stations, water treatment facilities, and water distribution and storage systems.  The primary responsibility of the program is to provide a potable, reliable water supply for residential and commercial uses, and for fire protection.

The program also promotes the conservation and protection of the Town's water resources. Wellesley's water system consists of seven wells, three water treatment facilities, two booster pump stations, two storage facilities with a combined capacity of 6.3 million gallons, and 149 miles of distribution main.

About 85% of our water is derived from our seven local wells and 15% comes from the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority (MWRA) regional water system. Typically we use the MWRA water during the summer months when our local supplies are unable to meet the peak demands caused by lawn irrigation.
