Trails Committee Minutes 06/10/2009
TRAILS COMMITTEE
MEETING MINUTES
June 10, 2009

Attendees:  Rina Rub, Bob Brown, Len Poitras, Peter Rovick, Joan Guaghan, Miguel Lessing, Bob White
Citizen: Guy Defeis

Mr Defeis presented a request that the Trails Committee considering adding the section of the Cochituate Aqueduct north of RT 9 to the trails network.  At on time the section of the aqueduct between Rt 9 and Overbrook Rd was passable.  How, in the last three years the vegetation, including poison ivy, has totally taken over and effectively closed that section of the aqueduct.  Additionally this section of the aqueduct is owned by the MWRA, and their permission we be needed before any work could be done. Guy agreed to and has prepared a draft letter to the MWRA requesting that they open up that section of the aqueduct.  I will forward his draft to the NRC.  We believe that the letter to the MWRA come from the NRC.  The level Trails Committee involvement will depend on their response.

Peter Rovick has been authorized to order 1000 refrigerator magnets to publicize the trails network.  He will give Helen the vendor information.

The TC voted to reroute the Crosstown Trail near the Duck Pond.  Joan will request NRC approval for this change.

The TC also voted to continue to investigate rerouting the Guernsey Path near Nehoiden Gold Course.  Len will meet with Wellesley College to get their approval.  The reroute would come out to RT 16 at the Waban House.  The crossing of RT 16 at that location is not ideal.  If the path were to continue eastward along Rt 16 either the Town or the College would have to commit to mowing the stretch between Waban House and Service Dr.

The reroute of the Sudbury walk near Babson has been rescheduled for Saturday July 11th at 8:00 am.  We will meet at the Babson Post Office on Forest St.  The walk should take less than an hour.

The Town will be stepping up enforcement of the Bylaws regarding signage.  Our Trails Walk signs, placed at the RT 135 Rotary and the RDF, fall under the jurisdiction of the Selectmen.  They have indicated that the will continue to allow the placement of signs by non-profit organizations.  Peter removed the signs after the last Spring walk.  He and Miguel will look at sprucing up the sign prior to the Fall walk season.  The Fall walks will need to be chosen at the next meeting.  (Miguel, does that timing work with REC?)

The Selectmen are working with abutters along the Crosstown near the Warren Building to reduce the number of encroachments in the area.

Our next meeting will be Tuesday July 21st at 7:30.

Bob White
