TRAILS COMMITTEE
MEETING MINUTES
July 21, 2009
Attendees: John Schuler, Bob Brown, Denny Nackoney, Miguel Lessing, Peter Rovick, Tim Anderson, Bob White, Diane Hall
Lenny Poitras is moving from Wellesley and has resigned from the Trails Committee. Lenny was a valued member, particularly with his help in getting the Guernsey Path rerouted through Wellesley College, and being the map provider.
The final FY09 Budget was reviewed. We have almost $1400 in unencumbered FY06 Capital carryover. The Town Treasurer is deciding if we can continue to carry that amount over. We have almost $5200 in FY08 Capital carryover which we will be able to use in FY10.
The NRC has approved the reroute of the Crosstown Trail around the Duck Pond. On Saturday Aug 1 at 8:00 there will be a work party to mark the new route. The project should take no more than 30 minutes.
We are continuing to look at rerouting the Guernsey Path away from the Nehoiden golf course and near the Waban House. The reroute is dependent upon getting a commitment to mow along a stretch of RT 16 or the installation of a crosswalk near the Waban House.
The NRC has sent a letter to DCAM asking for their permission and help in clearing the Cochituate Aqueduct north of Rt 9.
There is still an encroaching garden in Centennial Reservation near the Bluebird Meadow. The NRC should contact the owner.
The Fall walks schedule has been approved. Miguel will issue the details.
Denny will build a new Trail Walks sandwich board and Peter and Miguel will paint it according to the design approved at the meeting.
We are concerned over the increasing amount of graffiti on the Waban Arches and will investigate possible remedies to reduce the graffiti without limiting the lawful use of the Arches.
I will continue to monitor the construction at the State St Parking lot and ensure that the pedestrian access will be available on the north side of the lot. The NRC and Wetlands Protection Committee have commited to having our input on projects which affect existing and proposed trails.
Our next meeting will be Thursday September 3rd at 7:30.
