TRAILS COMMITTEE
MEETING MINUTES
March 9, 2009
Attendees: Denny Nackoney, Miguel Lessing, Len Poitras, Rina Rub, Jim Elliot, Diane Hall, Joan Gaughan, John Schuler, Bob White
Jim presented the latest budget numbers. After some discussion and some minor revisions, we have just over $5,000 in projected capital. Since we are getting no capital for a FY10 budget, this will need to cover all capital expenditures through June 30, 2010. We have a little over $4,000 in our FY09 Operating Budget and $3,845 in our Gift Account. We decided, by a 5 to 4 vote, not to buy any more TC buttons. We decided unanimously to spend $100 of Operating Funds for aluminum arrows for the section of the Charles River Link trail which is in Wellesley. We also voted not to contribute any money to the Wellesley Conservation Council's update of Walks in Wellesley.
I will contact the DPW regarding; a "leaner" in Carisbrooke, the Morses Pond steps, a trash barrel at the top of Maugus Ave, and "Pick Up After Your Dogs" signs at Prospect, Fairbanks and Washington .
We are considering minor reroutes to the Sudbury Path near Babson and the Crosstown Trail near Town Hall. We will schedule TC walks for these reroutes at our next meeting.
We have a new Boy Scout considering taking on the Rockridge Pond bridge project. Additionally another Scout is looking at resolving the drainage issue on the Guernsey Path. Denny and I will meet with Adam Bossi for his input.
We are waiting for final approval from the DPW to allow trail access to Peirce Hill.
The Lower Falls Bridge project is moving forward. Wellesley CPA funds will be requested and the upcoming Annual Town Meeting. The Newton request for CPA funds is also moving forward. There will be a presentation to the Newton Lower Falls neighborhood on Monday March 23rd. The DCR, who owns the bridge, appears to be very committed to this project.
The Wellesley Kiwanis Club will conduct a trail improvement project in the Town Forest on Saturday April 4th from 9 to 11. If you are available, stop by. We will meet in the Longfellow Pond parking lot on Oakland St. Bring gloves and small hand tools.
Miguel and Diane are meeting with Hans Larson on the 24th to discuss the Selectmen's response to our suggestions to minimize dumping on encroached sections of the Crosstown Path.
Our next meeting will be Thursday April 9th at 7:30.
