Trails Committee Minutes11/18/2008
TRAILS COMMITTEE
MEETING MINUTES
November 18, 2008

Attendees:  Denny Nackoney, Miguel Lessing, Len Poitras, Joan Gaughan, Diane Hall, Bob White
Citizens: Robert McGuane, Mrs McGuane

Robert McGuane of React Wellesley, a Two-Way Radio Organization, presented his plans for helping the Trails Committee on our walks.  Robert has been on several walks this fall and confirmed that the radios work well on the walks.  He would like to place brochures in the map holders.  We will vote on his request at the next meeting.

The FY10 Capital Budget request of $5,000 and the FY10 Operating Budget request of $4,000 were unanimously approved.

The Crosstown Trail at Washington St sign is being refurbished, one that work is complete, the State St sign will be refurbished.

We voted to bring the Brook Path reroute near the High School to the School Building Committee and the School Committee.

Miguel presented the results of the Fall walks.  We will be finalizing the Spring walk schedule at the next meeting.

We are considering a minor reroute of the Crosstown Trail near Town Hall.  There will be an opportunity to walk the reroute this Saturday, the 22nd, at 9:00.  Meet on Washington St west of the Police Station.

We will order more Trails buttons to replace our diminished supply.

The Selectmen have issued their advisory letter to abutters of the Cochituate Aqueduct.  While to a firm as we would like it is a good first step.  We will have the DPW clean up several very egregious areas, one near Fairbanks and one near Washington.  Hopefully, conditions along the Aqueduct will improve.

The Lower Falls Bridge project is moving forward,  If the DCR approves the first phase of the project,  CPA funds will be requested from both Newton and Wellesley.  DCR will provide matching funds and construction could begin early in 2010.

The next meeting will be Tuesday January 6th at 7:30 pm.

Bob White
Chairman
