TRAILS COMMITTEE
MEETING MINUTES
January 15, 2008
Attendees: Peter Rovick, Denny Nackoney, Len Poitras, Jim Elliot, Bob Brown, Tim Anderson, Joan Gaughan,Bob White, Citizen: Diane Hall.
The four Spring walks have been scheduled: Lower Falls on May 3, Town Forest on May 17, Beard Path on May 31, Boulder Brook on June 7.
The Trails Committee has been invited to the Jan 22nd NRC meeting. The Natick Trail Committee will be on the agenda at 7:30. The National Development Corp also will present their plans for 27 Washington St (Grossman’s).
Given the recent heavy snow, we expect blowdowns to be a serious issue in the more wooded paths. If the monitors can clear the trail that is the first option. If the trail cannot be easily cleared notify Denny or I and we will determine if we need DPW involvement.
Denny will work with the DPW and determine if our current two large signs can be refurbished and modified to correctly indicate the trail that they are on. The trails have been renamed since the signs were originally installed.
I will contact Hans Larson to see if they have received a response regarding the cost estimate to repair the Lower Falls railroad bridge. I will also try to get an update on the Selectmen's plans for the railroad right-of-way. I will also try to get contacts at Olin College and the Beard Way property association.
Bob Brown will prepare an article for the Townsman highlighting the spring walks and recent improvements to the trails for a mid-April edition.
We have two potential Boy Scout projects, the Carisbrooke bog bridge and the Rockridge bridge replacement. I will let Gary McCabe know.
Diane Hall will let Gig Babson know that at least one abutter is dumping Christmas trees on the Cochituate Aqueduct.
At the February meeting we will discuss the need for additional Doggie Bag dispensers, and "Pick up after your dog" signs, as well as enhancements to the new tri-fold map cover. The next meeting will be February 19th at 7:30.
