TRAILS COMMITTEE
MEETING MINUTES
August 30, 2007
Attendees: Len Poitras, Denny Nackoney, Denise D'Aunno, Miguel Lessing, John Schuler, Joan Gaughan, Bob White
Citizen: Bob Brown
The fall walk schedule is finalized. Miguel needs leaders for the Oct 13th Boulder Brook walk. He will place flyers and refill the map houses this weekend. Joan will finalize the details of the Nov 4th Kid's Trail Day by the next meeting.
On Saturday September 22 at 8:00 we will have a trail maintenance work party at Longfellow Pond. Meet at the main parking lot on Oakland St.
Denny and Joan and anyone else who wishes should attend the planning board meeting on Thursday September 6th at 7:30 in Town Hall. The Developer will present options for 27 Washington St (Grossmans). The Trails Committee wants to ensure that all consideration is given to Charles River access and that financial support is given to repair the RR bridge.
Town Council has given his opinion that the Morses Pond beach area can be left open all year round. Miguel will learn if the rerouted path is a year-round path or if it must be closed during the 9-week beach season. We will update our map accordingly. The reroute will also include the section that runs parallel with the Crosstown Trail.
Now that the MWRA is almost finished with their project, Denny and Bob will install a post at the Waban Arches.
All major blowdowns have been removed from the trails by the DPW.
Len and I will meet with Wellesley College personnel. We may be able to map, but not mark, a path through the campus. I walked along the south side of Rt 16 to determine if this be an acceptable reroute of the Guernsey to avoid the golf course crossing and the walk on Dover Rd. The south side of 16 has poison ivy and is very narrow in spots. An alternative would be to walk on the sidewalk on the north side of 16 and cross 16 in an area with fair sight lines. I have attached trail descriptions for the maps for two alternatives assuming that we get permission to map the trail through the campus. If you can, please visit this area before our next meeting and we will discuss further. I would be happy to lead a walk in the area on Sep 15th at 8:00 if anyone is interested.
The DPW has complete the Bates Bridge project.
Our next meeting will be Thursday September 20th at 7:30.
