Trails Committee Meeting Minutes 11/16/2006
TRAILS COMMITTEE
MEETING MINUTES
TOWN HALL, LOWER LEVEL
November 16, 2006

Attendees: John Schuler, Jim Elliot, Denny Nackoney, Bob White

The Committee unanimously approved requesting a $4,000 operating budget for fiscal 08. Most of the money will go towards maps. I will attend the NRC capital presentation to Advisory on the 29th to answer any questions about the change from a 100% capital request to the current proposal.

Ben Zaehringer will present his Guernsey Sanctuary bridge project to the Wetlands Protection Committee on the 30th. Denny will attend. Pending approval, Matt plans to install the bridge on Dec 2nd and 3rd.
We conceptually approved the purchase of Trails Committee T-shirts. Final colors and sizes will be determined at the January meeting. IMPORTANT Please let me know what size T-shirt you would like. Each Committee member and selected "friends" will get shirts.

The spring walk schedule was prepared and is as follows:
- April 28 Hemlock Gorge (Hank Lysaght will lead and I have notified him)
- May 19 ( Moved from May 12 to coincide with Wellesley's Wonderful Weekend) Beard Path
- June 2 Morses Pond
- June 16 Sudbury Aqueduct (This will be a one-way walk and we will need several cars parked at Olin College, the end of the walk.  John will get us permission to park cars in the main Olin lot.)
I know it is early put check your calendars for your availability. All walks are on Saturday and begin at 9:00 am and should take about an hour.

We will consider a slight reroute of the Sudbury Path near the Wellesley Country Club. We will schedule a walk in the area prior to making any decisions. (After the meeting, I met with Dave Donohue, Wellesley Country Club member. We walked my proposed path north of the guard rail on the club property. He will take that option to the club leadership.) I have contact Joe MacDonald of Olin regarding the reroute near Olin.
Jim has noticed encroachment issues on the Sudbury. He will document and forward the information to Janet Bowser. Jim will also contact the Beard Way owner's association regarding the leaf dumping at the end of the path.
Denny has updates map inserts for the Town Forest and Morses Pond. The DPW has been notifies about two large blowdowns, one on the CRP, the other in Centennial.
The Bates Bridge project is not on the Wetlands agenda for Nov 30th.
The next meeting will be Thursday Jan 11 at 7:30.

Denny and I will spike the post near the Babson lower athletic fields.

I would like to thank the Committee for all the fine work that you have done this year. Have a happy and prosperous Holiday Season.

Bob White
