From time to time, the Selectmen receive requests from citizens or groups of citizens for permission to close off a certain street or portion of a street for a neighborhood party or activity.
Permission is generally granted if it will not have the potential of creating a traffic problem or endangering the citizens of that area. The following conditions are typically attached to any permit issued by the Selectmen's Office for a Block Party:
** The Chief of Police must be contacted at 235-0062 to work out safety details.
** Barriers used to close off the street be immediately removable in the event of an emergency. Please make an effort to notify all non-participating residents on the street of your plans in order to eliminate any inconvenience they may have with the traveling on the road at that time.
** No alcoholic beverages shall be served or available for consumption
** No Fire shall be built in the roadway.
** No loud music shall be played.
** All litter, signs, banners, etc. are removed and the public way is left in a state of tidiness immediately following the party.
To obtain a permit please submit a written request outlining the street you would like to close off to traffic, as well as the date and time of the block party. For further information regarding this process please contact the Selectmen's Office at (781) 431-1019, extension 201.
