In 1994 the Planning Board completed and published a new Comprehensive Plan that recommended detailed studies be done on each of the commercial sectors of Town. Post Office Square has been included as a piece of the Wellesley Square Forum and Wellesley Square Action Plan. The small area known as Post Office Square plays an important role as the center of Wellesley Square and provides a link between commercial, civic, and transportation nodes within the area. The Planning Board has hired Stoss Inc. a landscape urbanism firm to conduct the study.
The Post Office Square Urban Design Review will look at the following:
» Circulation improvements
» Trail connections
» Design for Wellesley Square Train Station / platform in coordination with MBTA
» Post Office customer and employee parking configurations
» MBTA pedestrian crossing
» Enhancement of Central Park
» Outdoor festival programming
Location:
The project area is in the center of Wellesley Square bound by Town Hall in the East, the MBTA commuter rail to the North, Crest Road to the West, and the Route 16 / 135 intersection to the South.
Previous studies are available for review at the Planning Department in the lower level of the Town Hall or by contacting Meghan Conlon at (781) 431-1019 ext. 234 or mconlon@ci.wellesley.ma.us.
