                    Longfellow Treatment Facility

All our local water sources are treated with corrosion control, iron and manganese removal and disinfection. These facilities are located at: Morses Pond, which treats the water from three wells; Wellesley Avenue, which treats the water from two wells; and, Worcester Street, which treats the water from two wells.

Each of the three treatment facilities provides the same treatment processes. Water from the wells is first oxidized and filtered to remove iron and manganese. Then the water is aerated to remove carbon dioxide, which removes the acidity from the water. Finally the water is chlorinated and passed through a large disinfection contact basin before it is pumped into the distribution system.
